Shenzhen, September 5 /Xinhua/ — On Saturday, the Asia-Pacific Media Forum, dedicated to the theme “Paving the Way to Shared Prosperity for the Asia-Pacific Community: Media Consensus and Actions,” opened in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province /South China/.
Li Shulei, member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and head of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, participated in the forum and delivered a keynote speech. Huang Kunming, member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, also participated in the event and gave a speech.
The guests present noted that 2026 is the “Year of China” within APEC, as China will host the 33rd informal meeting of APEC economic leaders this year. They expressed confidence that with the support of all parties, the event will yield fruitful results and elevate cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region (APR) to a new level.
Participants in the event emphasized that development and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific Region depend on the active involvement of the media. The media are expected to share stories about openness and integration, provide comprehensive coverage of the progress and achievements of the countries in the region across various fields, and contribute to creating a favorable public atmosphere for the region’s open development.
The guests present noted that the media should actively cover the outcomes of the APEC event series, explain the policies and measures of various economies aimed at supporting scientific and technological innovations, as well as contribute to forming regional consensus on issues of innovative development.
They also called for deepening result-oriented cooperation in joint journalism, technological innovation, and personnel training, as well as for using the exchange of experience in the media field to spread culture and strengthen friendly relations, thereby promoting mutual understanding and closer ties among the peoples of the Asia-Pacific region.
The forum was organized jointly by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Xinhua News Agency, the government of Guangdong Province, and the government of the city of Shenzhen.
More than 400 representatives from over 40 countries and regions, as well as UN agencies and international organizations, participated in the event. At the opening ceremony, 16 founding organizations from China and abroad proposed the initiative to establish the Organizing Committee of the Asia-Pacific Media Partnership Program.
