But, you know, we still have a more complex task. New facilities are good. But the city is huge. It has been built over centuries, and it is important that it develops in all directions, in all spheres simultaneously,” noted Sergey Sobyanin.
One direction of this work is the modernization of the transport system. According to the Mayor of Moscow, millions of city residents use metro lines built decades ago every day, so they need to be updated. Modern services and new rolling stock are appearing in the capital’s transport. In terms of the pace of rolling stock renewal, Moscow public transport holds a leading position in the world.
At the same time, the city is developing housing infrastructure. The renovation program continues, thanks to which Muscovites move from old housing stock to modern apartments.
“We must not allow beautiful houses to stand side by side while other city residents live in dilapidated housing. It should not be this way. That’s why we adopted the renovation program. And this year already there is a significant figure — a quarter of a million Muscovites have moved from decrepit Khrushchyovkas to new beautiful homes. And we are actively continuing this program,” added Sergey Sobyanin.
The update also affects social infrastructure. In addition to the construction of modern educational facilities, Moscow has a program for the reconstruction of existing school buildings where several generations of city residents have studied. This year, on September 1, after the completion of the work, the following simultaneously opened 100 schools.
Modern industrial clusters are also being created in Moscow, where the latest technologies are being developed. This is important for strengthening the country’s technological independence. At the same time, hundreds or even thousands of hectares in the capital are occupied by old, semi-abandoned industrial areas. In recent years, they have been transformed under the comprehensive territory development program.
“There are residential neighborhoods being created, new industrial areas, new jobs, new sports and social facilities. In essence, we are renovating a huge part of the city, creating what is called a 15-minute city where living spaces are close to workplaces, social facilities, parks, and squares,” the Mayor of Moscow said.
New projects are also being implemented in the field of improvement. This year, the capital has seen the emergence of two new embankments. At the same time, the city is improving existing public spaces used daily by millions of people. In particular, work is underway on the Pushkinskaya Embankment in Gorky Park, in Sokolniki Park, and at the Luzhniki Olympic Complex.
Moscow also continues to provide ongoing support to its sister cities: Donetsk, Lugansk, and Sevastopol. The capital and its residents assist participants of the special military operation, send humanitarian aid, and support defense industry enterprises. After all, as the Mayor of Moscow noted, only through joint efforts will we achieve victory.
Sergey Sobyanin thanked the regions of Russia, including the Moscow region, for their joint work with the city in developing the country’s economy. The Mayor of Moscow also expressed gratitude to the Parliament of the Russian Federation, with whom there is ongoing work on regional legislation, as well as to the Government of Russia, with which the capital forms a unified team.
