Strike on WHO warehouse
As a result of an airstrike the day before, one of the main warehouses that the World Health Organization (WHO) uses in the Kyiv region of Ukraine to store humanitarian medical supplies was damaged. In the last three months, this has been the third attack on warehouses used by WHO in different regions of the country. Despite the attacks, the organization continues to work with health partners throughout Ukraine. WHO emphasizes that strikes on warehouses may delay or disrupt the delivery of aid to those who need it most.
Assistance to victims in Nepal
The UN and its partners today issued an urgent appeal for $49.6 million to assist more than 84,000 people affected by severe floods and landslides in northern Nepal. The disaster has claimed over 1,250 lives, thousands are missing, and entire villages have been forced to abandon their homes. Response efforts are focused on meeting the basic needs of the people. As part of humanitarian operations, plans include restoring damaged water supply networks, deploying water purification systems, and delivering hygiene supplies to prevent the spread of disease.
Food prices
In the past month, food prices have increased. The main factors driving the price rise were adverse weather conditions, the conflict in the Middle East, and export disruptions in the Black Sea region. These are the new data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Due to export disruptions from the Black Sea region, lowered production volume forecasts in European regions experiencing hot and dry weather, as well as the weakening of the dollar, wheat prices rose by 2.6 percent, reaching 15 percent above last year’s level.
Sexual and reproductive health
September 4th is observed as World Sexual Health Day. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) reminds everyone of the right of every person to bodily autonomy, access to appropriate services, and protection from discrimination and violence. September is also World Sexual and Reproductive Health Month. The WHO emphasizes that sexual and reproductive health is the foundation of overall health and well-being.
