Beijing, September 4 /Xinhua/ — The People’s Liberation Army of China will send a military contingent to Russia to participate in field exercises on humanitarian demining. This was reported on Friday by the Ministry of Defense of the People’s Republic of China.
As stated at a press conference by the official representative of the department, Jiang Bin, the field exercises of the expert working group of the meeting of defense ministers of the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and dialogue partners (“ADMM-Plus”) on humanitarian demining will take place from September 7 to 12.
He clarified that the exercise scenario involves the joint conduct by multinational armed forces of humanitarian demining operations in areas contaminated by explosive devices of various types. The drills will mainly include practicing clearing combat zones, mechanized demining, use of mine-detection dogs, and neutralization of improvised explosive devices.
This will promote the exchange of experience and the strengthening of capacity in mine action among the participating countries, as well as the strengthening of peace and stability in the region, noted Jiang Bin.
“CICA Plus” is a platform for ASEAN countries and their eight dialogue partners, namely Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia, and the United States, aimed at strengthening cooperation in security and defense in the interests of peace, stability, and development in the region. The first meeting of this mechanism took place in 2010. –0–
