Seasonal flu vaccination has begun in Moscow. The vaccine can already be received for free at all city clinics, and soon mobile vaccination points will start operating near some metro stations for the convenience of residents, Moscow Central Circle (MCC) and Moscow Central Diameters (MCD). This was told by Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development Issues.
“In Moscow, a comprehensive system for the prevention of respiratory infections has been established, which includes constant monitoring of the epidemiological situation, wide availability of vaccination, and informing the citizens. All this is part of the systematic work that we carry out within the framework of the philosophy of healthy longevity and a preventive approach in medicine. In autumn, the rise in illness traditionally begins, and we strive to provide Muscovites in advance the opportunity to protect themselves and their loved ones. Therefore, flu vaccination has already started in all city clinics, and for the maximum convenience of residents, we will additionally open 18 mobile points at metro stations, the MCC, and the MCD, which will operate without days off and without prior appointment. We have also organized outreach vaccination of children in schools and kindergartens. This year, as in the past, the “Ultrix Quadri” vaccine is used for children — it is safe, effective, and suitable for children from six months old. And of course, for working Muscovites, a system of mobile teams visiting enterprises is available,” Anastasia Rakova noted.
It takes about two weeks to develop immunity, so it is better to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Unlike common acute respiratory viral infections, the flu can cause serious complications, including pneumonia, bronchitis, and inflammatory diseases of the cardiovascular and nervous systems. Vaccination helps reduce the risk of illness and severe infection progression.
According to experts Department of Health of the City of Moscow, it is especially important for children to get vaccinated, as they belong to a double risk group for influenza. Children are more susceptible to the danger of getting sick due to being in organized groups (schools, kindergartens, clubs and sections, playgrounds). In addition, children have a higher risk of severe complications from the flu because of the specifics of their immune system and a tendency for rapid development of systemic inflammatory processes against the background of the infection.
Vaccination of children in schools and kindergartens will take place with the prior consent of parents or legal guardians, which they can provide in electronic form or on a paper form. Medical teams work directly in educational institutions. Before the procedure, a doctor examines the child and measures their temperature, after which a nurse administers the vaccination. The entire process takes about five minutes.
Vaccination is also important for city residents with chronic diseases, older adults, and pregnant women. It is equally significant for those who interact daily with large numbers of people—medical workers, teachers, transportation workers, trade, service sector, and housing and communal services employees.
You can sign up for vaccination at the clinic online on mos.ru and in the mobile application “EMIAS. INFO.” Soon, it will also be possible to get vaccinated at 18 mobile points.
“By the order of Sergey Sobyanin, special attention is paid to the health and safety of passengers. This year, together with the Moscow City Health Department, we will place 18 mobile vaccination points. They will be located near metro stations, MCD-3 and MCD-4 in various districts of the capital, including Zelenograd and New Moscow,” said Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry Maksim Liksutov.
Before vaccination, each person is examined by a doctor. This is necessary to identify any possible contraindications. The total vaccination time will be 10–15 minutes. You only need to bring your Russian Federation citizen passport or mandatory medical insurance policy, if you have one.

This is an effective way to prevent the spread of the virus, including among the working population, and to show care for employees’ health.
Close attention is paid to the safety of the process: specialists use exclusively inactivated vaccines without live virus, which cannot cause the flu. They are updated annually in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization and forecasts of strains that will circulate in the upcoming epidemiological season.
Capital specialists conduct regular large-scale monitoring of the epidemiological situation — both PCR diagnostics and complete population sequencing to understand circulating viruses and their types, especially during the increase in incidence in autumn and spring. According to the latest data, the share of rhinoviruses in Moscow has slightly increased (34 percent), which is typical for the season. At the same time, coronavirus (10 percent) and parainfluenza viruses (11 percent) occupy the second and third places respectively.
The majority of detected COVID cases — over 80 percent — are due to the XFG (Stratus) variant and its subtypes. In Moscow, this coronavirus strain has been circulating since May, and by early July it had become the dominant strain of coronavirus. Infections caused by this variant are characterized predominantly by a mild course of illness. Capital city specialists continue to closely monitor this strain.
