Tianjin, September 4 /Xinhua/ — On Thursday in the centrally administered city of Tianjin in northern China, the China Culture and Tourism Industry EXPO 2026 started, attracting more than 2,500 culture and tourism enterprises from 20 countries and regions around the world.
This four-day event, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the PRC, also brought together 10 international organizations and national-level industry associations.
This year’s EXPO with the main theme “Deepening the Integration of Culture and Tourism, Intelligently Creating a Better Life” consists of 10 thematic exhibition zones dedicated to the integration of culture and tourism, new digital business formats, equipment and gear for the culture and tourism sector, international cooperation, local attractions in Tianjin, and consumer goods.
Alongside the EXPO, 18 specialized events dedicated to regional cooperation, industry innovations, technology applications, and consumption in the fields of culture and tourism will take place.
According to the ministry, in the first half of 2026, the domestic tourism market in China continued to grow: residents of the country made more than 3.46 billion trips within domestic tourism, which is 5.4 percent more than in the same period last year. During this six-month period, travelers’ spending on domestic trips increased by 2 percent year-on-year, totaling 3.21 trillion yuan /about 473.4 billion USD/.
Official of the Ministry Miao Muyang noted that there is a steady increase in demand for high-quality tourist products, immersive experiences, more diverse consumption scenarios, and a personalized approach in service provision, which creates new opportunities for industry development.
The EXPO exhibition area covers 100,000 square meters. There are also venues dedicated to international cooperation, where travel agencies from around the world, international tourism organizations, as well as nearly 100 foreign tour operators and industry professionals have been invited.
