September 3 is the day marking the end of World War II. Sergey Sobyanin said in his blog about Moscow’s contribution to the victory over the enemy.
“Four years of the most arduous efforts, culminating in the storming of the Reichstag and a swift advance through the Gobi and Hinggan all the way to Korea. Moscow’s contribution to the victory over the enemy is immense. 850 thousand Muscovites went to the front—every fifth resident of the capital, and nearly 400 thousand city residents did not return from that war,” wrote Sergey Sobyanin.
Moscow’s industry produced about 3.5 million submachine guns for the front, 3,745 “Katyushas”, 16,000 aircraft, 85,000 mortars, over 34 million mines and shells, as well as a large amount of other products. Every eighth Soviet aircraft, every tenth shell fired at the enemy, or mine was made by the hands of Moscow workers.
At least 600,000 soldiers and commanders of the Soviet Army passed through the capital’s hospitals during the war years.
According to Sergey Sobyanin, this experience is still relevant today.
“Today our goal is to do everything in our power to strengthen the economy and support the Armed Forces. And most importantly, in the fight for a just cause, we must go all the way. Just as our great-grandfathers did 80 years ago,” concluded Sergey Sobyanin.
