Applications are now being accepted for the IX Moscow Children’s Championship “Masteryata.” Moscow schoolchildren from first to eighth grade can choose an interesting profession, master basic skills, and demonstrate them in one of 98 competencies. “Since 2018, the Moscow Children’s Championship ‘Masteryata’ has been helping schoolchildren learn about in-demand professions and get hands-on experience, acquire their first practical skills, and understand which specialty suits them best. Today, the participants can choose one of 98 fields to take part in, including graphic design, carpentry, police work, or confectionery art. It is important to note that the championship’s tasks are real challenges that professionals face in their daily practice,” the department’s press service said.
The championship is held in three age categories: for students in the first and second grades, for those in the third and fourth grades, and also in a special nomination “Family of Masters” for students from fifth to eighth grades. Participants from elementary school complete tasks in pairs under the guidance of mentors. In the category for fifth to eighth graders, the children are assisted by relatives — family members or legal representatives. Such a team consists of one student, one family member, and a mentor.
The championship takes place in two stages — a remote qualifying round and a final in-person round. The tasks are as close as possible to real conditions.
In the “Mobile Robotics” competency, schoolchildren will try themselves as programmers. They will have to independently assemble a robot from a kit, add a motor and sensors, write code, and then run it along a given route.
As part of the “Fashion Clothing and Accessories Design” program, participants are required to create a sketch of an outfit for a specific character and situation. The use of regular and colored paper, pens, and markers is allowed for the work. The project must be publicly defended before the jury, which will include teachers and production training masters from Moscow colleges, as well as representatives of partner companies.
Last year, the qualifying stage brought together about 13 thousand participants from more than four thousand teams of students, parents, and mentors. Nearly three thousand teams representing over 500 educational institutions in Moscow met in the championship final. The participants competed in the laboratories and workshops of Moscow colleges, learned to work together, and demonstrated professional skills.
