Moscow has signed an additional agreement to supply 10 more modern LiAZ-6274 electric buses of Russian manufacture. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry. Maxim Liksutov.
“By the order of Sergey Sobyanin, we continue to purchase modern equipment and make trips on ground transport even more comfortable. On existing routes, we are replacing buses with eco-friendly electric buses. The Mosgortrans fleet already includes more than 570 electric vehicles produced by LiAZ,” noted Maxim Liksutov.
Since 2018, innovative electric-powered transport has been arriving in the capital. Today, the ground electric transport network covers all districts of Moscow. The vehicles feature smooth ride, absence of noise and vibrations — all these factors ensure an even higher level of travel comfort for passengers. The main advantage of electric buses is their lack of impact on the city’s ecology. In addition, over eight years, the city has opened three electric bus depots, modernized nine existing Mosgortrans facilities to service modern vehicles, installed more than 470 ultra-fast charging stations in depots and at 59 terminal stations. Every few years, improved models of electric transport arrive in the capital. This year, Mosgortrans began receiving equipment with an innovative charging method.
In the spring of 2026, the number of trips on ground electric transport reached one billion. Now this figure has increased by another 150 million. Today, eco-friendly transport serves routes in all districts of the capital and in nearby cities of the Moscow region.
Electric buses from PJSC KamAZ and LLC LiAZ run along the city streets. Moscow’s order for new equipment supports employment in the regions and stimulates the development of domestic industry.
Electric transport provides a high level of service and meets the strictest safety standards. Low-floor electric buses are fully adapted for the comfort of passengers with limited mobility. For this purpose, a fold-down ramp and driver call buttons are provided. If necessary, the driver will assist with boarding and alighting. Bicycles, strollers, or large luggage can be conveniently placed on the storage platform. USB slots are available in the cabin for charging gadgets. Media screens display current information about upcoming stops and transfers. The climate control system maintains the optimal cabin temperature at any time of the year. An air curtain activates when the doors open. There are also buttons for selective door opening. For passenger safety, the transport is equipped with video cameras outside and inside. Digital validators are located near the doors, allowing payment for the ride in any convenient way.
Since 2022, improved equipment has been supplied to the capital. These electric buses feature adaptive interior lighting that changes from a cold to a warm tone at 2:00 PM, and the front route indicator has been increased by 18 percent, allowing the number to be seen from a distance. Additionally, the electric heater that maintains a comfortable temperature inside the cabin does not impact the environment. The range has increased from 40–50 to 80–90 kilometers, while the vehicle’s weight has remained the same.
More than 14 thousand highly professional drivers work at Mosgortrans. Over five thousand of them operate electric buses. To service the new equipment, the charging infrastructure is being expanded — more than 470 ultra-fast charging stations have already been installed in the capital. They have equipped electric bus depots and 59 terminal stations on the routes.
Today, electric buses operate at 12 Mosgortrans sites. Moscow was the first city in Russia to start building modern electric bus depots. In 2022, the first in Russia and the largest in Europe electric bus depot “Krasnaya Pakhra” opened in the Troitsky Administrative Okrug. Eco-friendly buses began running routes in TiNAO. A year later, the “Mitino” depot was built in the northwest. With its opening, electric buses started serving routes in 20 districts of the capital and two nearby cities in the Moscow Region. At the end of 2023, the third innovative electric bus depot — “Saltykovka” — began operating. It serves routes in the east of the capital.
According to the data from MosEcoMonitoring of the capital Department of Environmental Management and Protection, thanks to the replacement of buses with electric buses from 2018 to 2025, the city managed to avoid the emission of about 1,300 tons of pollutants and about 300,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent into the atmosphere. In 2025 alone, about 380 tons of pollutants and about 110,000 tons of greenhouse gas equivalent emissions were avoided.
