Participants of “Moscow Longevity» invite you to celebrate the capital’s birthday with themed quizzes, workshops, and literary salons. The edible symbol of the celebration will be 879 buns — corresponding to the number of years since the city’s founding.
Thus, professional trainers will help actively start the day at 09:30. For an hour, guests will embark on a virtual sports journey through the key eras of the capital. Each historical period will be accompanied by exercises, music of the corresponding time, and an instructor’s narration.
Moscow Longevity Centers We have prepared rich programs for elderly residents and their families. Guests can expect lectures by staff of leading museums, festive concerts, culinary and creative workshops, as well as meetings dedicated to music, cinema, and poetry.
“Traditionally, City Day every year unites all residents of the capital. We do everything to ensure that Muscovites of the ‘silver’ age celebrate the holiday as vividly and usefully as possible. On this birthday of the capital, ‘Moscow Longevity’ has prepared a large-scale program — from intellectual games and museum lectures to culinary master classes and creative meetings. Let every participant feel part of a big city celebration, find new like-minded people, and keep the warmest memories,” noted the deputy head of the city Department of Labor and Social Protection of the Population.
A special event will be the preparation of 879 buns in honor of the city’s 879th anniversary. Cooking studios will also hold master classes on making “Moscow Original” wheat porridge, Moscow-style dumplings, kalachi, gingerbread, and pies according to old recipes.
The educational part of the program will include thematic lectures. Club leaders and project partners will share memories and little-known facts about the history, architecture, and traditions of the city’s districts, as well as talk about the music, cinema, and poetry of the capital.
The museum association “Museum of Moscow” will hold lectures in nine Moscow longevity centers about the city and its famous residents. The State Historical Museum invites you to the Moscow longevity centers “Veshnyaki,” “Tverskoy-2,” and “Khamovniki” for a lecture about Moscow by Mikhail Bulgakov. Another topic of the meeting is “Cossacks and Moscow.”
At the “Golyanovo,” “Krasnoselsky,” and “Chertanovo Severnoye” centers, employees of the Vasily Nesterenko Moscow State Art Gallery will present a lecture titled “The Contemporary Chronicle of Artistic Moscow. The Creative Path of the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation V. Nesterenko Through the Decades.”
At the Losinoostrovsky center, specialists from the Museum of Cosmonautics will help see the capital through the eyes of Sergey Korolev, while the Catherine Historical and Art Museum Complex in the Zamoskvorechye district will offer a discussion on the role of portraiture in the history of art. At the Severnoe Butovo center, experts from the Moscow Exhibition Halls association will talk about the secrets of the architecture and art of the Moscow Metro.
In addition, participants will have the opportunity to try their hand at painting, wool felting, bead weaving, origami, patchwork sewing, and quilling in creative workshops. At the “Arbat” center, visitors will be offered to master the quadrille, in “Nagatino-Sadovniki” they will reveal the intricacies of making the Moscow kokoshnik, and in “Cheremushki” participants will create the district’s coat of arms using the quilling technique.
On City Day, more than 120 master classes, over 60 lectures, and at least 50 film screenings will take place across the project centers. The celebration will conclude with a choral performance of Moscow’s anthem “My Dear Capital” in all centers.

The celebration will not be limited to one day. On September 3 at 18:30, an intellectual quiz game “Capital Code” will begin in all centers, featuring questions about Moscow streets, famous quotes, music, and films in which the city is the main character.
On September 5 and 6, as part of the bus tours “Travel Through Life with ‘Moscow Longevity'”, citizens will visit landmark places and learn about people who influenced the capital’s history. Some routes will include visits to the project’s concert venues “Summer in Moscow”. And during the cruise on the yacht of the Radisson Royal fleet, favorite songs about the capital will be performed by the vocal-instrumental ensemble “Moscow Longevity”.
Senior residents of the capital are invited to join the “Moscow Longevity” project. This can be done online at portal mos.ru or website after55.moscow, as well as in person at the offices of “My documents” or in one of more than 140 Moscow Longevity centers.
