This year marks the 120th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding 20th-century composer Dmitri Shostakovich. In honor of this event, from September 22 to 27, the theater “Helikon-Opera”, subordinate to the metropolitan To the Department of Culture, will hold the festival “Shostakovich instead of chaos.” Tickets can be purchased through the service “Mosbilet”.
Festival program
The festival program will include significant works by the composer, featuring participation from famous orchestras and performers: the P.I. Tchaikovsky Grand Symphony Orchestra led by Maestro Arsentiy Tkachenko, the chamber ensemble “Moscow Soloists” under the direction of People’s Artist of Russia Yuri Bashmet, the A.A. Yurlov State Academic Choir of Russia led by People’s Artist of Russia Gennady Dmitryak, the Moscow Puppet Theater, People’s Artist of Russia Vladimir Ponkin, People’s Artist of Russia Felix Korobov, People’s Artist of Russia Natalia Zagorinskaya, Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan Alexey Tikhomirov, Honored Artist of Russia Ekaterina Mechetina, international competition laureates Andrey Korobeynikov and Philipp Kopachevsky, professor and musicologist Dina Kirnarskaya, leading soloists, choir artists, and the Helikon-Opera Theater Symphony Orchestra under the direction of chief conductor and laureate of the Russian National Theater Award “Golden Mask” Valery Kiryanov, and the Grand Mixed Choir of the Mendeleev Choir Congress led by Boris Tarakanov.
As part of the festival, Concerts No. 1 and 2 for piano and orchestra, Symphony No. 13 “Babi Yar,” masterpieces of vocal lyricism including “Satires” set to the words of Sasha Cherny, the satirical cantata “Anti-Formalist Rayok,” the vocal cycle “From Jewish Folk Poetry,” the vocal-symphonic poem “The Execution of Stepan Razin,” Symphony No. 5, and other works by Dmitri Shostakovich will be presented.
“Shostakovich’s Tales”
The play will premiere on September 26 and 27 “Shostakovich-Tales” in the White Column Hall of Princess Shakhovskaya. The production will include two compositions by Dmitry Shostakovich for children — “The Tale of the Silly Little Mouse” and “The Tale of the Priest and His Worker Balda.” A joint team from two theaters is working on the creation of the play — the fairy tales will be performed by soloists from Helikon-Opera and actors from the Moscow Puppet Theater, who will be assisted by puppet characters specially created for this production. After the premiere, the play “Shostakovich Fairy Tales” will enter the theater’s repertoire.
The play “Shostakovich-Tales” combines different genres and two productions. Cheerful and lyrical music, along with words from beloved poems that are light and accessible to a child’s understanding, will turn the introduction to the composer’s work into a lively event.
The festival “Shostakovich Instead of Chaos” will conclude with a performance of the famous opera “Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District” in the production by Dmitry Bertman. On September 27, the performance will feature star soloists from “Helikon-Opera,” choir artists, and the theater’s symphony orchestra. For the first time, the legendary performance will be conducted by People’s Artist of Russia, chief conductor of the Moscow Academic Musical Theater named after K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko, Felix Korobov.

You can buy a ticket directly through the service. For events where personal data is required to purchase a ticket, entering the visitor’s last name, first name, patronymic, and information is not necessary: if the user has a standard or full account, it is enough to leave the default value — Mos ID — in the document selection field. Mandatory fields must be filled in manually if the account is simplified. When issuing tickets for young guests through the service, all data must be entered only by the accompanying adult. For children under 14, only the last name, first name, patronymic, and date of birth can be provided, and it is not necessary to show the child’s document when attending cultural events.
