Major banks and retail companies will open their infrastructure for working with digital rubles from September 1, 2026.
From this date, citizens have the opportunity, if they wish, to use the new form of the national currency. To do this, they need to open an account on the Bank of Russia’s platform. This can be done in the “Digital Ruble” section, which will appear in the mobile applications of banks connected to the platform. Such an account at person or companies there will be only one, while individual entrepreneurs will have two: one account as a private person and a second one for conducting business.
Person will be able to to top up their digital ruble account from their bank accounts with an amount of up to 300 thousand rubles per month. There is no top-up limit for businesses. Both individuals and companies will be able to manage all their savings in their digital wallet without restrictions. Will be available transfers between individuals, companies, as well as payments to and from the budget, payment for purchases, refunds.
Additionally, there are banks that are not legally required to open the infrastructure this fall, but want to provide digital ruble services already now. The regulator gave such an opportunity.
All payments and transfers in digital rubles for citizens are free of charge. For businesses, a grace period is in effect until the end of this year – no fees will be charged for payments and transfers. Starting in 2027, fees will apply to individual entrepreneurs and companies tariffs, which will become the minimum on the payment market.
