Registration for the cynology course “Cynologist School” has opened on the special projects website of the “My District” program. This is the second and final session this year of the free educational project for children. The spring session took place from May 19 to June 14 and brought together more than 80 participants across nine districts of Moscow.
The basic cynology course includes two parts: an online lecture series and practical sessions. First, participants study video lectures on the fundamentals of cynology, dog care, and training, and then practice skills at the project’s training grounds. “Pets in Moscow” under the guidance of instructors from the Russian Cynological Federation (RCF).
“The main task of the school is to teach parents and children how to properly handle their dogs. Feeding, care, basics of training — every element here is important because the child must understand what they are interested in doing,” noted Evgeny Pudeyev, head of the RKF training center.
Correspondence lecture hall includes 27 video lectures lasting from 15 to 20 minutes each. Participants will learn about the history of dogs’ origin, rules for choosing a breed and a puppy, features of care, feeding, treatment, training, and pet obedience, as well as participation in exhibitions and competitions. After watching the lectures, you can take test and upon successful completion receive an electronic certificate. The course author is Evgeny Tsigelnitsky, a zootechnician-cynologist and a teacher at the RKF Educational Center.
The practical part consists of four sessions lasting 60 minutes each. Participants work in mini-groups of up to 10 people with their dogs. In the sessions, they learn basic commands, find out how to work with their pets on obstacles — a hoop and a barrier, and also practice safe interaction skills with their beloved pets in an urban environment. Upon completion of the course, a personalized certificate is issued to them.
The schedule and registration for the autumn course can be found on the special projects program website “My District”. A total of 10 groups are planned. Classes will start on September 19 and will be held at three venues.
So, in the cynological park on Kolskaya Street (property 16a), lessons will be held on Saturdays (you can choose a group from 13:30 to 14:30 or from 15:00 to 16:00) and on Sundays (from 12:30 to 13:30 and from 14:00 to 15:00). In the cynological park on Timurovskaya Street (house 5) — on Tuesdays (from 16:30 to 17:30 or from 18:00 to 19:00), Wednesdays (from 17:00 to 18:00), and Thursdays (from 17:00 to 18:00). And at the site in Grachevsky Park (Klinskaya Street, house 2, building 9) — on Fridays from 16:30 to 17:30 or from 18:00 to 19:00.
“We show children how to call the dog with the command ‘Come!’, how to execute turns on the command ‘Heel!’, teach the dog to sit, stand, lie down, and overcome obstacles. The difference in dogs’ behavior during walks is not a matter of breed or temperament, but of upbringing and training,” emphasized Alexander Parakhin, a cynologist, multiple winner and prize-winner of Moscow and Russian championships in national types of training, an instructor of the RKF.
The “Cynologist School” project is being implemented within the framework of the Moscow Mayor’s program “My District” in collaboration with the Russian Cynological Federation and the Center for the Study of Animal Nutrition and Welfare. Practical classes take place at the venues of the “Pets in Moscow” project.
