With the beginning of the new academic year, the intensity of traffic traditionally increases in the capital across all types of transport: schoolchildren, college and university students head to classes daily. The Moscow Metro has already prepared for the autumn increase in passenger flow — minimal train intervals have been maintained on the lines so that students can reach their destinations without delays.
“With the onset of autumn, hundreds of thousands of students come to the city, and the load on the transport system naturally increases. In the metro, we maintain minimal train intervals: 90 seconds during the most in-demand hours on the main lines. This allows for an even distribution of passenger flow and helps schoolchildren and students get to their places of study on time and without delays. By order of Sergey Sobyanin, we are creating the most comfortable transport system in the world,” noted the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
Travel time is also reduced by new generation trains. For example, in the Moscow-2026 trains, thanks to through passages, increased capacity of up to 1,500 people, and wide doors, passengers board the carriage faster and easily move throughout the entire train.
The metro infrastructure is guarded around the clock. The ‘Sphere’ video surveillance and video analytics system is in operation, and security service and police officers continuously monitor order at the stations.
By the beginning of the school year, the tram system, including the Moscow tram diameters whose routes run near educational institutions, is fully ready. Specialists constantly monitor the operation of the transport in order to promptly respond to changes in passenger flow and ensure stable movement.
Thanks to the separation of tram tracks from automobile traffic, travel time is significantly reduced, and students reach Bauman Moscow State Technical University, National Research University “Moscow Power Engineering Institute,” Russian University of Transport, and other universities faster.
During the school year, more than 10 special bus and electric bus routes operate in the capital to educational institutions. Transport runs in the morning and evening hours along adjusted routes in 10 districts of Moscow. Such routes are marked with special letters after the number.
Special attention is given to the safety of children on the roads and compliance with the rules for using personal mobility devices. Rental transport is available only to adult users after compulsory age verification through the Mos ID system on the mos.ru portal.
Since the launch of the digital verification mechanism, rental operators have already blocked about 100 thousand accounts.
