Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova and Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin opened new filming locations in the Mosfilm park “Moskino.” They also met with the film industry professionals working there.
“By order of the President of Russia, we are developing the Russian film industry. Moscow is becoming a real center for filming not only Russian films but also international projects. One of these areas is the development of ‘Moskino’. This is, essentially, one of the largest outdoor filming locations in the world, where about 80 cities have been built outdoors, filming sites. This year we completed the construction of the third phase. And the number of film shootings has nearly doubled compared to last year. Moreover, ‘Moskino’ is becoming a tourist center. According to Tatyana Golikova, over the past three years, the share of viewers watching Russian films has increased to 79 percent.
“As of today in 2026, the number of viewers who have watched Russian cinema is already 66 million people, and annually over the last three years we have been gaining 100 million people,” said Tatyana Golikova.

Karen Shakhnazarov pointed out the difficulties in producing new film projects that arose due to changes in cities, the emergence of modern advertising and architecture. According to him, the Moskino film park has created stunning sets and all the conditions necessary to shoot quality films.
“I have just finished filming. And I am simply amazed because, of course, you understand, making quality cinema today is very difficult, because cities have changed, modern advertising, modern architecture. A huge number of cars. The decorations here are stunning,” emphasized Karen Shakhnazarov.
Artistic director of the State Theatre of Nations Evgeny Mironov said that a suitable location for recreating Vladivostok of 1905 for the film “Arsenyev” could not be found anywhere except the MosKino film park.
“This is Svetlanovskaya Street, a famous street in Vladivostok. It is in its original form, as it was more than 100 years ago. This is the governor’s house, these are churches, this is Cape St. Olga, and this is the waterfront with water. We could not even dream of this. Because we even filmed Arsenyev’s departure with his team to the cruiser from a boat,” said Evgeny Mironov.
The CEO of JSC “Channel One” Konstantin Ernst emphasized that a unique opportunity has been created at the MosKino film park not only to shoot films but also to visit it as a tourist.
“Moscow delights Russian film and TV audiences twice: with the products we produce here, and with the opportunity to visit ‘Moskino,’ to participate, to touch it all with your own hands. Thus, the series “Arsenyev,” filmed on the natural set “Port City,” is dedicated to the history of Vladivostok at the beginning of the 20th century, while the film “Zheltuga,” also created there, covers events of the late 19th century in the Amur region. At the same time, shooting at the film park does not cancel the work of filming crews in the region itself: location shoots were conducted both in Vladivostok and at Tobizin Cape, and the aforementioned film “Aldan” was shot directly in Yakutia.

The MosKino film park is also popular among foreign productions. This year alone, the site was visited by seven foreign delegations, and three films were shot here — “Black Silk” (in collaboration with China), “Zhusup” (in collaboration with Kyrgyzstan), and “Smash” (in collaboration with India). Filming of a joint project with Uzbekistan, dedicated to the Battle of Moscow, is expected to begin by the end of 2026.
As part of the Moscow International Film Week, which is held for the third time in the capital from August 24 to 30, the MosKino film park will be visited by about 50 foreign representatives from more than 20 countries around the world.
At the end of 2025, the “Equestrian Complex. Historical Manege” began operations at the Moskino Film Park, covering a total area of more than 20,000 square meters, created according to the classic racetrack scheme. Each exhibit has two lives: one in the past, the other in modern cinema.
Historical carriages are true movie stars. These exhibits have appeared in dozens of Soviet and Russian films, they are still harnessed with horses, go out for filming, and then return.

This year, the film park infrastructure was supplemented with two new sound stages — 20 and 24 meters high, with a total area of 4.6 thousand square meters, equipped with dressing rooms and everything necessary for the efficient work of film crews.
New natural sets were also opened, including the “Palace.” It is located on the territory of the “Battlefield” site, which allows it to be used in the filming of battle scenes involving pyrotechnics.
The “Modern Moscow” set showcases the most sought-after landmarks of the capital and allows complex filming without lengthy approvals at the city’s restricted facilities. Here there are public service center, a school, a kindergarten, and even an underground passage, which significantly simplifies the filming process.
The “European Cities” decoration allows for the reproduction of urban landscapes from the times of the First and Second World Wars, and is also suitable for shooting historical plots from the 17th to 19th centuries.
The “Reichstag” decoration is an exact replica of the Reichstag building in Berlin at the end of World War II. It hosted the immersive project by Igor Ugolnikov “Victory! Banner over the Reichstag”, the creation of the eponymous feature film, and patriotic events.
“We worked through all the details because it was necessary for this film. The Reichstag was defended by two thousand Germans. On May 1, Berest, who was disguised in a colonel’s uniform, negotiated with them. And he was shot in the back. This will also be in our film. For all of us, the footage remained in our memory — and that’s it. The “Fortress,” with a total area of about 11,000 square meters, located near the “Reichstag” and “European Cities” sets, is a fortification structure featuring a drawbridge, fortress gates, and a moat. It is part of the set complex of the “Battlefield” area.
The set “Fairy Tale City” is suitable for filming fictional plots, fairy tales, epics, and other folklore works. The site includes a three-story terem with towers about 25–30 meters high, a terem with a conical roof, stained glass windows, wooden carvings with elements of ceramic mosaic, a weather vane, a spire, and houses of unusual shapes in the Art Nouveau style.

On weekends and holidays, an entertainment program called “Cinema Weekends” takes place, which includes tours, quests, and staged filming sessions. Visitors can explore the sets if they are not in use for filming at that time, book a tour as part of an organized group, or independently visit the locations, including the most remote ones — various transportation rental services are provided for this purpose.
Educational events are also held in the film park for children and teenagers, where they get acquainted with modern creative professions.
In the summer months of 2026, there was a noticeable increase in the audience: while in June-August 2025 more than 114 thousand people visited the platform, during the same period this year the number of guests reached nearly 600 thousand.
In 2026, the MosKino film park became one of Moscow’s key venues for hosting large-scale open-air festivals of various genres. In the summer, the “Times and Epochs” festival was held there, attracting over 40,000 people. Additionally, this year the venue hosted a series of lively festivals including “Tradition,” “Straw,” “Dobrofest,” and “Ember Fest.” Together, they drew nearly 200,000 visitors.
For the first time on Russia Day, a stunt cowboy show took place in the film park, and more than 12,000 guests were able to see the spectacular performance.
The Vadim Zadorozhny Autocinema Exhibition is open — a unique combination of automotive history and cinematographic heritage. Visitors can see more than 50 units of historical equipment: cars that have become an integral part of domestic culture, as well as iconic foreign models.
The MosKino cinema park has become a participant in the project “New Addresses of Happiness”, and last year 156 couples were registered here. In 2026, registration is planned for 150 newlywed couples. They have access to the decorations of the “Theatre,” the “Princely Chambers,” and many other venues.

Moscow Film Industry
More than 3,600 film studios, production centers, and media holdings operate in the capital. Up to 90 percent of Russian content is produced in the city.
After the departure of foreign giants in 2022, a vacuum appeared that domestic producers and online platforms began to fill. To assist them, Government of Moscow is implementing a large-scale project “Moscow — the City of Cinema.” It includes the modernization of existing facilities and the creation of new infrastructure, as well as the development of specialized services to increase the production volume of high-quality international-level film content.
The Moscow film cluster includes:
— the “Moskino” film park in the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky administrative districts — an open-air filming complex for outdoor shoots;
— The Gorky Film Studio, which is experiencing its second rebirth today;
— the film factory “Moskino” on Ryazansky Prospekt — a modern full-cycle cinema media cluster;
— the “Moskino” cinema network.
In addition, the cluster includes the digital cinema platform “Moskino” and the film commission.
Gorky Film Studio — one of the oldest domestic film companies. Many of its films have been included in the golden collection of Russian and world cinema. In 2023, the film studio became the property of Moscow, and by the end of 2026, specialists will complete the main modernization work.

Currently, the film studio operates four shooting pavilions, allowing for filming with set constructions tailored to any request from film companies, two XR pavilions with the capability of shooting on LED screens with extended reality technology, as well as a themed pavilion “Police”.
In the fall of 2026, eight more pavilions will be opened, including a water pavilion unique to Russia and pavilions with permanent interior decorations of a hospital and an apartment. A unique phygital arena for organizing major urban and federal level events will also appear on the territory of the film factory.
In addition, the largest costume and props center in Europe, “Firebird,” is located here. It provides props for more than 80 percent of the country’s film projects.
In March 2025, a cinema studio presented a unique LED screen structure for Russia with an area of over 300 square meters. It allows the creation of scenes using virtual production technology and the filming of movies of any complexity directly in the studios.
MosKino Film Commission was created in 2018. Its main task is to increase the presence of the capital, its streets, parks, and cultural heritage sites on large screens, as well as to attract the attention of filmmakers to the infrastructure of the Moscow film cluster.
The Moscow Film Commission acts as a unified operator facilitating interaction between the film industry and the city. It helps filmmakers organize shoots on city territories and at facilities of the Moscow film cluster, establish cooperation with relevant agencies and city services, obtain necessary permits, and carry out the filming process without disrupting the usual rhythm of the metropolis.
The list of services offered by the film commission includes approving and organizing shoots at city infrastructure sites, short-term street closures, monitoring dynamic filming, providing operational support for projects directly on set, as well as organizing initial inspections of filming locations. To execute complex scenes, the film commission has its own fleet of 19 specialized vehicles for various purposes, as well as a team of film commissioners ensuring coordination of the filming process in real time.
In the first half of 2026, the film commission received over two thousand applications to shoot more than 500 unique projects. This is 11 percent more than in the first half of 2025 (1795 applications). In the second half of 2025, 2121 applications were received.
An important direction of the Moscow Film Commission’s work is supporting aspiring filmmakers. Students from specialized universities shoot educational projects on city streets, in parks, on embankments, as well as at Moscow film cluster facilities, gaining the opportunity to master the organization of the filming process in the country’s largest metropolis.
The “Moskino” cinema chain has its origins in 1932, when by order of the Presidium of the Moscow City Executive Committee and the Moscow Soviet, the trust of Moscow city cinemas “Mosgorkino” was established.
Today, the MosKino network engages in cultural and educational activities, providing viewers of all ages the opportunity to watch not only entertainment films but also auteur movies, Soviet film classics, and rare cinema masterpieces on the big screen.
