The capital repair project of the residential building on Maksimova Street (house 8) has been approved. This was reported by the Chairman of the Moscow City Committee on Pricing Policy in Construction and State Expertise of Projects (Moskomexpertiza). Ivan Shcherbakov.
“The object of repair is a three-story residential building constructed in 1947. According to the project documentation, its facades will be renovated, balconies and decorative architectural elements will be restored, and the roof and drainage system will be repaired,” said Ivan Shcherbakov.
The building on Maksimov Street was constructed as part of the academic town of Laboratory No. 2 of the USSR Academy of Sciences, which was later renamed the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute.” The house was intended to accommodate Soviet scientists and nuclear physicists. It was designed by Leonid Karlik under the supervision of Ivan Zholtovsky in the neoclassical style.
During internal repair works, the walls and ceilings in the entrances will be cleaned of old paint layers, the plaster layer will be repaired, and the surfaces will be painted. The stair railings will also be refurbished, with the handrails repaired and varnished.
The facades of the building, its plinth, window and door reveals will also be cleaned, treated with biocidal agents, and painted. On the balconies and the veranda, the screed and floor covering will be replaced, metal railings will be repaired, and new wooden handrails will be installed.
“Residential building 8 on Maksimova Street is a valuable historical and architectural object, the restoration of which will be entrusted to highly qualified specialists in the field. Taking into account the structural features of the building, experts have selected domestic materials and modern technologies that allow for the effective updating of engineering solutions while preserving the building’s appearance. During the renovation process, the building will be returned to its historical colors. Such monuments of urban architecture serve as a bridge between generations, conveying through the decades the spirit and aesthetics of bygone years,” noted Pavel Ryabonenko, Deputy General Director of the Moscow Capital Repair Fund.
Specialists will pay particular attention to the molding in common areas and on the building facades. They will carefully remove paint from the decorative elements, perform restoration where it is missing, and then prime and paint the surfaces.
The project also includes work on the roof of the building. The roofing will be replaced and the ventilation shafts repaired. Additionally, a new external drainage system will be installed on the building.
