Specialists from the capital urban infrastructure complex more than 1,100 monuments are being promoted ahead of City Day, which this year is celebrated on September 5–6. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Utilities and Improvement Pyotr Biryukov.
“We carry out comprehensive cleaning of monuments and memorials, of which there are more than 1,100. Each object is cleaned using a special technology, depending on the material it is made of and its overall condition,” noted Petr Biryukov.
If necessary, aerial work platforms and washing machines are used for the work. Titanium monuments are cleaned with a neutral solution, while granite ones are treated with special compounds that allow for effective removal of salt stains. All applied agents are environmentally safe and gently affect the surfaces.
First, workers check the site for any damage or rust. After that, the monument is washed with water, then a foamed solution is applied, which is rinsed off after 10 minutes with a strong jet of water. Finally, the monument is wiped dry.
The structures are regularly washed from April to October, maintenance work takes place once a month, but if the monument is heavily soiled, for example due to weather conditions, it is cleaned more often — every two weeks.
