Lanzhou, August 21 /Xinhua/ — Gansu Province /Northwest China/ has established 17 colleges or centers of traditional Chinese medicine /TCM/ in 13 countries, including Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, and Ukraine. So far, these institutions have provided medical assistance to 256,000 patients and organized training for more than 3,000 people, the provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy reported.
Gansu has a rich history in traditional Chinese medicine. Thanks to this heritage and an excellent education system, the province has become a partner for many countries around the world in the field of TCM. Since 2015, the Traditional Chinese Medicine University of Gansu Province has enrolled more than 300 students from over 10 countries, including Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, offering them bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs.
According to Liu Bozhun, head of the above-mentioned department, Gansu Province currently supplies TCM medicinal raw materials to 19 countries, and local enterprises in the TCM sector have registered more than 1,500 product names abroad.
Since 2013, Gansu Province has begun establishing TCM colleges or centers abroad. This not only provides doctors from different countries with the opportunity to study traditional Chinese medicine, but also allows local residents to access convenient and high-quality diagnostic and treatment services within TCM, expanding the “circle of friends” of traditional Chinese medicine overseas.
Liu Bozhun reported that in the next five years, efforts in Gansu Province will be directed towards improving the construction of the existing 17 colleges or centers of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) abroad, sending experienced doctors to provide consultations, continuously conducting diagnosis and treatment using TCM methods, and organizing training for personnel in this field. -0-
