The comprehensive restoration of the clergy house with an annex of the Trinity-Odigitriev Stavropegic Women’s Monastery is being completed. It is located in the Bekasovo district at the address: Zosimova Pustyn settlement, property 1, building 8. The building was erected at the beginning of the 20th century. It has the status of a cultural heritage site of regional significance. Specialists have restored the historical appearance of the structure with maximum preservation of original elements.
“For a long time, the house of the clergy of the historical ensemble of the Zosimova Desert was in an unsatisfactory condition — the wooden part of the facade was severely deformed, the roof was damaged, the cornice and carved decor were partially lost, and the windows were missing. The restoration of this cultural heritage site took three years. Specialists managed not only to reinforce the building’s load-bearing structures and solve complex engineering challenges to protect the monument from dampness, but also to fully preserve its historical appearance, including elements from the early 20th century. Now this historic building will once again become part of the full life of the monastery,” noted the head of the Moscow Department of Cultural Heritage.
Specialists carried out pointing and reinforcement of the brick walls and work on the wooden part of the building. They repaired the rafter system, the roof covering, installed windows, a porch, updated the engineering systems, completed the rough finishing on the first floor interiors and the final finishing on the second floor. They also installed window casings on the second floor and arranged a dormer window. Special attention was paid to stucco decoration and stove restoration. At the final stage, it is planned to install interior doors and the staircase railing.
All work is carried out on the basis of approved project documentation, issued permits, and under the supervision of specialists from Mosgornasledie.
The Trinity-Hodegetria Zosimova Hermitage Monastery was founded in 1826 with the blessing of Metropolitan Philaret of Moscow by Reverend Zosima as a women’s community on the estate of the State Councilor Maria Bakhmetyeva.
The architectural ensemble took shape by the mid-19th century. According to insurance documents, by 1910 the central estate already counted 57 buildings.
During the Soviet era, the monastery went through a series of significant changes. The buildings were constantly adapted for new needs. Until 1929, former novices survived here under the guise of a labor cooperative, then for more than 40 years it operated as a nursing home for the disabled, and since 1968 the territory was handed over to a summer pioneer camp for the children of Mosmetro employees. During this period, a swimming pool, sports areas, and playgrounds appeared in the former monastery.
The decision to restore the shrine was made in 1996. In 1999, the monastery was revived.
