At the intersection of Yartsevskaya and Orshanskaya streets, the lane markings were redone according to the project of the Center for Traffic Management (CTM). Specialists arranged an additional lane for going straight, and now U-turns can be made at the nearest intersections — with Yelninskaya and Partizanskaya streets. The changes will help make traffic at the section clearer and reduce the risk of conflict situations, while the intersection’s capacity will increase.
“Re-striping allows for improving traffic flow in the capital quickly and without changing the width of the roads. For example, in the west of Moscow at the intersection of Yartsevskaya and Orshanskaya streets, the Traffic Management Center project created an additional lane through re-striping, and U-turns can now be made at the nearest intersections. Thanks to this, traffic in the section will become safer, and the intersection’s throughput will increase by 17–20 percent, according to the Traffic Management Center experts. We continue to make city trips more comfortable, as instructed by Sergey Sobyanin,” noted the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry matters.
Before implementing the project, the specialists from the Traffic Management Center analyze the traffic situation on the specific section: they assess the capacity, traffic intensity, and accident data. Based on this analysis, they determine where it is necessary to change the traffic pattern.
Thus, at the intersection of Yartsevskaya and Orshanskaya streets, an accident analysis showed that the existing U-turn created additional conflict situations. Therefore, the traffic pattern was changed. Currently, specialists from the Traffic Management Center continue to monitor the road conditions in the area and assess how the changes have affected city traffic.
By changing the road markings, it is possible to add additional lanes, extend transition-acceleration zones, organize new traffic directions and more convenient U-turns. This helps reduce local traffic jams, increase throughput capacity, and make trips more comfortable for drivers and public transport passengers.
