Specialists urban infrastructure complex 50 percent of the work on replacing expansion joints on bridge structures planned for this year has been completed. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement. Pyotr Biryukov.
“Special attention is paid to maintaining engineering facilities in regulatory condition; comprehensive work on replacing expansion joints on bridge structures is carried out on an ongoing basis. This year, we will update such structures at 12 sites, including four road bridges, two overpasses, and six viaducts. In total, we will replace about a thousand linear meters, with 50 percent of the total volume already completed,” noted Petr Biryukov.
Work has already been completed on six structures, including the overpass at the intersection of the MKAD with Dmitrovskoye Highway, the flyover on Serebryanicheskaya Embankment, and the Strogino road bridge.
Specialists continue to replace expansion joints on the overpass at the intersection of the MKAD with Kiev Highway, the Kapotnya — Dzerzhinsky overpass at the 18th kilometer of the MKAD, and the overpass over the railway tracks at the fourth kilometer of the MKAD.
Periodic replacement of expansion joints is necessary because the metal structures gradually deteriorate due to intense traffic flow and sharp temperature fluctuations. As a result, a small bump appears on the road surface, causing the driver to feel a jolt when crossing it.
The work is carried out only during the warm season in accordance with the established technology. Specialists first dismantle the old expansion joints, then install new structures, and at the final stage perform reinforcement and concreting of the transition zones. At the same time, the bridge structures are not closed to traffic — during the repair, traffic restrictions are introduced on one lane.
