Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, together with the governor of the Arkhangelsk region, Alexander Tsybulsky, assessed key social and infrastructure facilities in the Solovetsky settlement, which have been included in the overall model for the preservation and development of the archipelago.
“By the order of our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, the 600th anniversary of the founding of the first monastic settlement on the Solovetsky Archipelago will be celebrated in 2029. For several years, renewal has been underway in all areas—from engineering to cultural and tourist. The anniversary will become a powerful driver for the comprehensive development of the Solovki and maintaining their status as one of Russia’s main spiritual centers. It is important to keep the work on the sites under constant control,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted: “The Arkhangelsk region as a whole strives for qualitative changes, actively participates in the national projects ‘Youth and Children’ and ‘Tourism and Hospitality.’ This helps create conditions for the development of the younger generation, making the region comfortable for local residents and guests.”
On the 600th anniversary of the founding of the first monastic settlement on the Solovki, a number of social facilities and the monastery complex are being transformed, and major infrastructure projects are being implemented.
Dmitry Chernyshenko and Alexander Tsybulsky inspected the facilities for which the Arkhangelsk region is responsible, as well as those under the responsibility of the Fund for the Preservation and Development of the Solovetsky Archipelago and the PPK “Unified Customer in the Field of Construction.” Among them are the construction of the Tamarin technological pier, the reconstruction of the hangar for seaplanes, the modernization of engineering networks, the reconstruction of the federally significant cultural heritage site “Hotel ‘Preobrazhenskaya'” and the building of the Solovetsky State Historical, Architectural, and Natural Museum-Reserve, where work is progressing at a rapid pace.
As Alexander Tsybulsky noted, the reliability of the basic communal infrastructure is of fundamental importance for the further development of the settlement.
“Therefore, one of the most extensive blocks of our work today is the modernization of water supply and sewerage systems,” said the head of the region.
Thus, in August of last year, government contracts were signed for the construction of water supply and sewage networks. Both projects are funded. Currently, work on the water supply networks is progressing ahead of schedule. Forty-six wells have been installed, and more than 7,500 meters of networks laid — 37.8% above the planned volume. Simultaneously, work is underway to install fencing around the water treatment facilities.
Dmitry Chernyshenko and Alexander Tsybulsky also assessed the progress of the major repairs of apartment buildings and discussed the possibilities for improving 5 public spaces. The application from the Arkhangelsk region for one of them won the All-Russian competition for the best projects to create a comfortable urban environment. The area is located along the White Sea and is used by residents and guests of the archipelago as a walking route. It will be landscaped in 2027.
The major renovation of the kindergarten in the Solovetsky settlement is in its active phase. Demolition work of the interior premises has been completed, repair of the brickwork of the interior walls, and plastering of the walls on two floors. Work on the facade repair and the laying of electrical power supply systems is ongoing.
“The work is planned to be completed by the end of the year. Progress is good. Over 25% of the work has been completed in two months,” said Valentina Rudkina, head of the Primorsky municipal district.
Also, during the inspection of the kindergarten repair, Dmitry Chernyshenko and Alexander Tsybulsky discussed the sports hall project, for which preparatory work has been completed and the project documentation has been approved by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Sports, and the Solovetsky Archipelago Preservation and Development Fund.
The progress of work on all sites will be discussed in detail at the meeting of the organizing committee for the preparation and celebration of the 600th anniversary of the founding of the first monastic settlement on the archipelago. The meeting will be chaired by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
