The creation of sports infrastructure in cities and towns across Russia covers an increasing number of public areas. This work is being carried out, in particular, within the framework of the federal project “Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment,” which has been integrated since 2025 into the national project “Infrastructure for Life.” This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.

“The development of a comfortable living environment is impossible without modern and accessible places for sports activities. We see a huge demand from people and try to meet it with specific facilities. Thus, since 2025, about 830 sports grounds have appeared in parks, squares, and other public spaces under the national project ‘Infrastructure for Life.’ The plan for this year is to complete 462 such projects. The leaders in the number of equipped sports grounds within the improvement program since 2025 are the Republic of Dagestan (44), the Republic of Bashkortostan (40), Samara (32), Leningrad (29), and Tula (28) regions. Such work contributes to maintaining the nation’s health and improving the quality of life in the regions,” said Marat Khusnullin.

All facilities are designed taking into account the interests of different age groups – from children to elderly people, including those with limited mobility. Special attention is given to landscaping, lighting, and the convenience of access to the site.

For example, following the results of the All-Russian competition for the best projects to create a comfortable urban environment, the Heroes-Pilots Park in Volgograd was equipped. In the framework of the all-Russian online voting for improvement projects, 24 thousand residents voted for it. Here, zones for basketball, streetball, pump track, and a workout area have been equipped. In the “Vozrozhdenie” park in Volnovakha, DPR, a multipurpose workout zone with 16 modules and safe covering appeared. In the Magadan “Mayak” park — a sports zone with modern exercise machines and a mini climbing wall.

“Sports grounds today are designed taking into account the climatic features of the regions, are transformed to meet a wide variety of requests, and organically fit into the landscape. The basis of the design is, above all, the needs of people, their desire to spend time actively outdoors, strengthen health and strength. As a result, a culture of healthy lifestyle is formed, opportunities are created for the development of the physical potential of each person, and a safe environment for active leisure is ensured. Such work makes a significant contribution to achieving the key indicators of the national project ‘Infrastructure for Life’, within the framework of which the improvement of 30 thousand territories and the implementation of more than 1.6 thousand projects—the winners of the All-Russian competition of the best projects for the formation of a comfortable urban environment—are planned,” noted Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services Alexey Yeresko.

Sports areas are created in various formats: these include outdoor exercise equipment and workout areas, mini-football and basketball courts, hockey rinks with artificial ice or surfaces for year-round use, as well as pump tracks for cyclists and scooter riders.

“One of the notable trends in urban improvement is the creation of multifunctional public spaces designed for various types of activities and residents of different ages. The focus on a healthy lifestyle and maximum accessibility of sports zones is reflected in urban development. We see how the demand for such facilities is being met through the All-Russian competition, regional, and municipal programs. I believe that the trend of increasing the number and quality of sports grounds and areas for active recreation will continue to develop, as there is demand for it among residents,” noted Dina Safiullina, Director of the Federal Autonomous Institution “Project Directorate of the Ministry of Construction of Russia.”

Modern technologies and materials are used in the construction of sports grounds: polyurethane coatings that are resistant to loads and temperature fluctuations, and for skate parks and pump tracks – with an anti-slip layer. All coatings are adapted to the climate, ensuring safety in any weather.

The federal project “Creating a Comfortable Urban Environment” began as the party project “Urban Environment” of “United Russia” in 2017. Over the years of the federal project’s operation, more than 118 thousand areas have been improved across the country, resulting in the creation of over 30.8 thousand jobs and about 7 thousand new points of commercial activity.
