Beijing, August 19 /Xinhua/ — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks on Wednesday in Beijing with Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna.
Wan Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, noted that China and Chile share a long-standing friendship; they are good friends and good partners.
He emphasized that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Chile, and expressed the Chinese side’s readiness, together with the new government of Chile, to continue the traditions of friendship, deepen practical cooperation, and elevate bilateral relations to a new level.
Wan Yi stated that China and Chile should maintain contacts at all levels, strengthen mutual trust at a high level, and continue to support each other on issues affecting the key interests of each side.
China is ready to jointly deepen cooperation with Chile within the framework of the ‘Year of China’ in APEC and to accelerate the formation of the Asia-Pacific community and the establishment of the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area, noted Wang Yi. He called on both countries to intensify the alignment of their development strategies and to more fully unlock the potential for cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence and the digital economy.
Wan Yi also called on the parties to intensify contacts and coordination, jointly uphold and implement genuine multilateralism, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
Francisco Pérez Mackenna, in turn, stated that the new government of Chile firmly adheres to the One China principle and is ready to jointly with China intensify high-level exchanges, strengthen humanitarian ties, enhance the integration of production chains, and expand cooperation in areas such as scientific and technological innovation, artificial intelligence, and workforce training.
Chile expects close cooperation with China to protect global free trade and promote peace and stability worldwide, he added, expressing hope for the successful conduct of the “Year of China” within APEC.
