Beijing, August 19 /Xinhua/ — China firmly opposes taking anyone’s side and bloc confrontation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Wednesday.

Lin Jian made this statement at the latest departmental press conference, responding to a request to comment on a report that the US government plans to send a letter to countries that signed the Joint Statement on Partnership in Artificial Intelligence Capabilities, demanding that they do not simultaneously join the corresponding initiatives of the American side and other mechanisms that contradict these initiatives.

“All countries have the right to choose partners for cooperation taking into account their national conditions and development needs,” emphasized the Chinese diplomat.

Lin Jian expressed hope that all parties could abandon zero-sum thinking, strive for solidarity and mutual benefit, respect the digital sovereignty of all countries, and jointly work on creating a fair and reasonable global AI governance system.
