Beijing, August 18 /Xinhua/ — China does not oppose normal cooperation between the United States and the Philippines, but believes that such cooperation should not be directed against any third party or harm the interests of third parties, said Lin Jian, an official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, on Tuesday.
Lin Jian made this statement at the latest press briefing after the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines announced a few days ago the opening of a center in Palawan aimed at helping local fishermen report cases suspected of illegal fishing.
“China has taken note of the relevant reports and will closely monitor the situation,” said Lin Jian.
China consistently believes that exchanges and cooperation between countries should contribute to mutual understanding and trust among the states in the region, as well as to strengthening peace and stability in the region, the official representative added.
