Muscovites are invited to name the squares in the districts of Kryukovo, Kuntsevo, and Mozhaysky, as well as the streets in Kommunarka and Yuzhny Butovo. In the project «Active Citizen” several opened simultaneously votes, whose participants will have to choose names for objects of the street-road network and small landscaped areas within the urban development.
A street in Yuzhnoye Butovo
One of the streets that needs to be named is located in the southwest of Moscow in the Yuzhnoye Butovo district. It runs from Bolshaya Butovskaya Street to Sinelnikovskaya Street and crosses 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Pavlogradsky Streets. Previously, the “active citizens” in voting suggested their options for the name of this small section of the street-road network. More than 180 thousand Muscovites shared their opinions back then. Among the popular options were “Leonid Andreyev Street” and “Promenade Street.” Now one of them can be supported by the residents of the capital in a new voting.
The idea to name the unnamed street after the Russian classic was not accidental: at the beginning of the 20th century, the writer rented a summer house in this area. Surrounded by birch groves, he found inspiration for future works, met with friends, and spent time with his wife and children. The memory of this is carefully preserved. In 2018, local historians created the Leonid Andreyev Museum on the site of the former estate. The exhibition features household items and materials related to the history of the place and the life of the prose writer: books, furniture, photographs, letters, first editions of works.
Unnamed passage in Kommunarka
The project is also open voting Regarding the selection of a name for the unnamed passage in the Novomoskovsky Administrative District. The street-road network section runs parallel to Sadovaya Street in the southern part of the village Dudkino in the Kommunarka district.
The “Active Citizens” are offered several options. The first is to name it in honor of Sergey Postevoy, a participant of the Great Patriotic War and Hero of the Soviet Union, commander of a mortar platoon. Having received a garden plot as one of the best workers of the “Znamya Truda” plant in 1954, Sergey Postevoy lived in the horticultural non-commercial partnership “Znamya Truda” before his death.
The second option is “Zavodskoe Sodruzhestvo Street” in memory of the gardening partnership that appeared here in the mid-20th century. Land plots in it were given to leading workers of the “Znamya Truda” factory.
Names for squares
In addition, the residents of the capital will have to name three squares: two of them are located in the west of Moscow and one more in the Zelenograd administrative district.
Thus, the “active citizens” will choose name for a small landscaped area between houses on Molodogvardeyskaya Street in the Kuntsevo district. In 2024, a monument to the Young Guard Heroes was unveiled in the square. Members of the underground organization fought against the fascists on occupied territory during the Great Patriotic War. Muscovites can commemorate the feat of the young heroes. Two options are presented for voting: “Square of the Young Guard Heroes” and “Square of the Young Guard’s Memory.”
Another unnamed square is located in the Mozhaysky District. Green pathways stretch along houses No. 14 and 16 on Gvardeyskaya Street, which was named in 1961 in honor of military units that showed exceptional courage. Experts propose to continue the tradition of local toponyms and name it territory “Square of the Guard Glory” or “Square in Memory of the Hero-Guards.” The memory of the Great Patriotic War is also preserved in other names on the map of the Mozhaysky district. Nearby the square are streets named after Heroes of the Soviet Union: Marshal Mitrofan Nedelin, Colonel-General Ivan Grishin, and Junior Sergeant Andrey Rashchupkin.
In the Kryukovo area of the Zelenograd Administrative Okrug, “active citizens” will choose title for the unnamed territory around Mikhaylovsky Pond. The square is located between Logvinenko Street, Andreevka, and Panfilovsky Avenue. Residents of the capital can name it “Architect Pokrovsky Square” or “15th Microdistrict Zelenograd Square” (based on its location). The first option is associated with the name of the person who shaped the city’s appearance. Igor Pokrovsky worked for about 40 years as the chief architect of Zelenograd and coordinated the design of almost all buildings. Thanks to his work, such iconic structures appeared as the Mikron factory complex, the flute-shaped residential building, the architectural ensembles of the Central Square and the prefecture, the high-rise hotel (now the Zelenograd business center), the Palace of Culture, the “Bayonets” memorial complex, and the Palace of Children’s and Youth Creativity.
Also, in each of the five votes, Muscovites can not only support the proposed name options for streets and squares, but also leave the decision on these matters to the specialists.
The votes were prepared by the project “Active Citizen” in cooperation with the capital’s departments cultural heritage and territorial executive authorities. They are available to users with full and standard accounts on the mos.ru portal. Participants receive points from the city loyalty program “Million Prizes”. They can be used to obtain goods and services from partner organizations of the program, or to top up the balance of the transport Troika cards, charity and other purposes. Project “Active Citizen” has been operating since 2014. During this time, more than seven million people have joined it, with over 7,800 votes held in total. Every month, from 30 to 40 decisions of Muscovites are implemented in the city. The project is developed by the State Public Institution “New Management Technologies” and the capital’s Department of Information Technology.
