Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University is completing the main stage of the admissions campaign for international applicants. According to preliminary data, the Admissions Office has processed over 3,000 applications for contract-based education from foreign citizens.

Foreign applicants showed significant interest in additional education programs: more than 1,000 applications were submitted for the “Preparation for University Admission” program. This field is traditionally in demand among future students who wish to adapt to the educational process in Russia and improve their proficiency in the Russian language.

Preliminary results of the admissions for budget-funded places deserve special attention. This year, 2924 applications for the main educational programs were submitted to SPbPU for consideration. As of today, 361 candidates have been selected for training in bachelor’s, master’s, and postgraduate programs.

Within the framework of the International Olympiad of the ‘Global Universities’ Association, SPbPU received 252 applications from winners and prize-winners. This Olympiad offers foreign applicants a unique opportunity to study funded by the federal budget of Russia, as well as to receive “Grant support for foreign citizens” from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Additionally, 7 applications were submitted by winners International Olympiad of the Russian-African Network University. These are the winners of the pilot season, which proved its effectiveness and is now becoming a large-scale mechanism for attracting talented graduates of African universities to the Russian higher education system.

Polytech continues to hold leading positions among Russian universities in terms of the number of international students. Currently, more than 5,000 citizens from 105 countries around the world are studying at the university. The highest number of applications came from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, India, China, Colombia, Myanmar, Libya, Turkmenistan, Turkey, and Ecuador. The final results of the admissions campaign will be summed up after all enrollment stages are completed.

Preliminary data on the admission of foreign citizens this year show a stable trend: interest in Polytech remains strong, and the quality of applicants’ preparation is improving. Processing more than three thousand applications on a contract basis is a significant amount of work, which our staff completed in a short time. It is especially gratifying that 252 winners of the International Olympiad of the “Global Universities” Association chose our university to continue their studies on a budget basis — these are the best minds from different countries. We also observe increased interest in university admission preparation programs and Russian language study programs. I am confident that after completing all enrollment stages at the end of August, we will see the final numbers that will cement SPbPU’s status as one of the leading centers of international education in Russia,” noted Evgenia Satalkina, Head of the International Education Department.
