Urumqi, August 13 /Xinhua/ — The regulation adopted last month in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which is the largest cotton producer in China, has become the first local normative act in the country specifically aimed at promoting the high-quality development of the cotton industry, Mai Liyan Simayi, deputy secretary and official representative of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of XUAR, said recently.
According to her, the regulations that came into effect on July 1 are of great importance for improving the quality of cotton in Xinjiang, increasing the incomes of representatives of all local ethnic groups, and ensuring the safety and stability of the production and sales chains of the cotton textile industry.
The regulation consists of 37 articles in six chapters, covering the improvement of work quality throughout the entire production chain, from planting, harvesting, and procurement to processing, sales, and reserve storage.
According to the State Statistical Administration /SSA/ of the PRC, in 2025 Xinjiang produced 6.165 million tons of cotton, which accounts for 92.8% of the total production volume in the country.
