Beijing, August 10 /Xinhua/ — Typhoon Dolphin is moving inland after two landfalls along the coast of Zhejiang Province (East China). It is expected to bring heavy rainfall to more than 10 provincial-level regions. This was reported by the National Meteorological Center (NMC) of China on Monday.
On Monday morning, the NMC issued a “blue” level alert due to the typhoon, forecasting that prolonged heavy rainfall is expected on Wednesday in regions including Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Henan, Hebei provinces. In some areas, heavy rain showers, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected.
Starting Thursday, the weakening typhoon is estimated to move north and interact with cold air, leading to heavy rains in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and Liaoning Province /Northeast China/, the NMC noted.
Meteorologists warned that the typhoon could increase the risk of floods and other natural disasters in some areas, urging strengthened measures to prevent secondary disasters such as landslides, geological hazards, and floods in small and medium rivers.
Local flood control authorities in Beijing announced that the city plans to activate the Level 2 emergency response mode for floods. Hebei Province, Tianjin City, and Henan Province also issued corresponding warnings due to heavy rains and strengthened safety measures at tourist sites located in mountainous areas and near water bodies, noting that if necessary, sites located in high-risk zones will be closed. -0-
