Top news of the day at the UN and worldwide: attacks on civilians in Ukraine and humanitarian organizations in the country, ongoing restrictions on aid delivery to Gaza, recommendations for clinical trials of the Ebola vaccine in the DR Congo, rising food prices.

Attacks on Ukraine
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that as a result of attacks on Thursday and Friday, civilians in Ukraine once again were killed and injured. The day before, the organization Save the Children reported that an aerial bomb damaged its office in Sumy – this is already the second attack on the Ukrainian facilities of this international NGO in less than a week. On Wednesday, an attack in the Kherson region reportedly injured two employees of a local institution cooperating with the International Organization for Migration. Despite the risks, the UN and its partners continue to provide assistance to those affected.
Aid in Gaza
According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the volume of aid that the UN and its partners were able to deliver to Gaza in July increased by 33 percent compared to June. However, restrictions on the import of certain types of cargo remain in place. In particular, humanitarian organizations need permits to import machine oil and spare parts that are essential for the operation of transportation and generators. Restrictions also apply to construction materials. At the same time, according to a new assessment by the UN Satellite Center, the number of destroyed buildings in Gaza has increased by 9 percent since the ceasefire was announced in October.
Ebola Outbreak
The WHO Technical Advisory Group recommended prioritizing the inclusion of the ‘Ervebo’ vaccine in the clinical trial during the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). ‘Ervebo’ is the only registered vaccine against Ebola. It is effective against the Zaire strain. Experts noted that its efficacy against the Bundibugyo virus, which is spreading in the DRC, still needs to be proven.
Food prices
Global food commodity prices rose again in July: heat, rising energy costs, and ongoing geopolitical tensions pushed up prices of grains, vegetable oils, and sugar. This is stated in the monthly review of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The increase was most noticeable in the grain segment. Global wheat prices jumped 5.8 percent due to concerns about ongoing export disruptions via the Black Sea and the potential impact of recent abnormal temperatures on the harvest in key producing countries.
