Hangzhou, August 7 /Xinhua/ — The authorities of Zhejiang Province (East China) raised the typhoon response level for “Dolphin” from level 4 to level 3 at noon on Friday, as the 13th typhoon of the year approaches the country’s east coast.
According to the meteorological station of Zhejiang province, as of 8 a.m. on Friday, the typhoon was located approximately 763 km east of the city of Wenling in this province.
According to forecasts, the typhoon will move westward at a speed of 15-20 km/h, with its strength expected to remain mostly unchanged or slightly increase.
The National Meteorological Center (NMC) of China issued a yellow warning Thursday evening, forecasting that Typhoon “Dolphin” will make landfall along the eastern coast of China between Shanghai and Fuzhou (Fujian Province, Eastern China) on Sunday or Monday with an intensity ranging from typhoon to severe typhoon and will bring heavy rains to areas north of its landfall location.
The chief forecaster of the Zhejiang provincial meteorological station, Lou Xiaofen, noted that there is a high likelihood that the typhoon will directly hit Zhejiang province, creating a serious threat of natural disasters throughout the region.
By 8 a.m. on Friday, all 162 passenger ferry routes and operations at all 193 maritime facilities in Zhejiang Province had been suspended, and 474 construction vessels were recalled to port.
The maritime authorities of Zhejiang Province have sent out 86,000 early warning messages and inspected 24,000 vessels. Powerful tugboats are currently on standby for emergency rescue operations.
