In recent days, as a result of attacks on the territories of the Russian Federation and Ukraine, children have again been killed and injured. This was stated on Tuesday by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), calling on all parties to comply with international humanitarian law.
As noted by UNICEF, reports indicate that on Sunday in the Belgorod region of Russia, a 13-year-old girl was killed by a drone strike near a playground, and two other girls aged seven and nine were injured. Additionally, according to incoming information, on Monday in the Krasnodar region, seven people, including three children, were killed in an attack, and about 40 people were injured.
It is reported that at least six children have died in the territory of Ukraine over the past seven days. Among them is an eight-year-old boy, as well as at least three children who died together with their entire families in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and two girls aged five and ten in the Sumy region. During the same period, at least 19 children were injured, according to available data noted by the UN agency.
“Children’s playground. Beach. Family home. Children have the right to be safe where they live and play, wherever they are,” UNICEF said in a statement.
UNICEF has once again called on all parties to fulfill their obligations under international humanitarian law, including the protection of children and civilian infrastructure.
“Attacks that result in children being killed and injured must stop,” UNICEF stated.
