Baghdad, July 30 /Xinhua/ — Iraq’s National Security Council on Wednesday condemned the US and Saudi Arabia airstrikes on paramilitary positions across the country, endorsing a comprehensive security plan to tighten state control and counter any violations of Iraq’s sovereignty.
During an emergency meeting chaired by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi, the council stated that the strikes were carried out at a time when the Iraqi government was “actively engaging with the relevant parties to verify and address concerns raised by both the Saudi and American sides regarding attacks on Saudi territory,” according to a statement by Sabah al-Numan, the spokesperson for the commander-in-chief of Iraqi forces.
Earlier on the same day, US-Saudi strikes were carried out against positions of the Iraqi paramilitary Popular Mobilization Forces /PMF/ in several provinces, resulting in at least 20 PMF members killed and 32 wounded. –0–
