Beijing, July 30 /Xinhua/ — Huangyan Island is the inherent territory of China. Illegal attempts by the Philippines in this region will undoubtedly fail, said Jiang Bin, official spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense of the People’s Republic of China, on Thursday.
Jiang Bin made this statement in response to questions about recent incursions by Philippine service vessels into waters near Huangyan Island, as well as about the so-called joint patrol conducted in the area by the Philippines, the United States, and Japan.
“The territory of the Philippines is defined by a number of international treaties, and Huangyan Island lies beyond its borders,” said Jiang Bin, noting that this fact cannot be changed.
Chinese military personnel will always remain in a state of heightened readiness, resolutely oppose any rights-violating actions and acts of provocation, take concrete measures to protect national territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests, as well as maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea, emphasized Jiang Bin.
He also warned that defense and security cooperation between the relevant countries should not be directed against any third party and should not undermine regional peace and stability.
