Beijing, July 28 /Xinhua/ — The official spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Lin Jian, on Tuesday once again called on Japan to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident involving an officer of the Japan Self-Defense Forces entering the Chinese embassy in Tokyo, to analyze its actions, correct mistakes, and provide a responsible explanation to China and the international community.

Lin Jian made the corresponding statement at the latest briefing in response to a media question.

According to reports, the Tokyo prosecutor’s office has charged Kodai Murata, who stormed the Chinese Embassy in Japan with a knife. Earlier, a psychiatric examination confirmed that he is mentally healthy and can bear criminal responsibility for the incident.

On March 24, Kodai Murata, armed with a knife, forcibly entered the territory of the Chinese Embassy in Japan and threatened to use violence against the Chinese staff.

Lin Jian noted that four months have passed since Kodai Murata’s illegal intrusion with a knife into the territory of the Chinese embassy. According to the Chinese diplomat, despite China’s stern representations, the Japanese side has been consistently delaying the investigation and consideration of the case, using psychiatric examinations and other pretexts to thereby postpone the administration of justice. “The Chinese side expresses sharp dissatisfaction in this regard,” the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC stated.

He stated that for a certain period, negative incidents threatening the security of Chinese diplomatic missions have continued to occur in Japan. Lin Jian noted that many insightful people in Japan and beyond observe deeply rooted problems in this country, reflected in dangerous trends such as the growing influence of right-wing forces and the suppression of voices of common sense, serious flaws in the teaching of truthful history, a shift to a more aggressive and expansionist defense policy, the authorities’ inability to maintain control over the Self-Defense Forces and uphold discipline within their ranks.

“Any attempt by Japan to downplay the seriousness of the incident means condoning and encouraging such unhealthy tendencies, which will ultimately cause great harm both to Japan itself and the entire region. The international community must remain extremely vigilant,” concluded Lin Jian. –0–
