Beijing, July 28 /Xinhua/ — On Monday, the State Administration for Disease Prevention and Control of China presented a new five-year plan aimed at modernizing the country’s public health system and strengthening its capacity to prevent and respond to disease outbreaks.
According to the new plan for disease prevention and control within the framework of the 15th five-year plan (2026-2030), China intends to largely complete the establishment of a modern disease control system with Chinese characteristics by 2030.
The plan provides for the creation of a stronger institutional framework and working mechanisms to prevent and reduce the risks of large-scale epidemics, as well as the implementation of a highly effective multichannel system for monitoring and early warning of infectious diseases, capable of responding promptly to emerging threats.
In addition, the plan sets tasks for significantly enhancing capabilities in risk assessment, precise prevention and control, emergency response, organization of medical care, and ensuring the readiness of production and supply chains.
It contains a call to increase readiness to combat new and emerging infectious diseases, to ensure more effective control over the risks of spreading infections that are among the most significant, as well as to take more decisive measures to minimize the damage caused by serious illnesses.
To achieve the set goals, the plan outlines a number of priority tasks across three main areas: prevention of major infectious diseases and combating them, strengthening the institutional infrastructure of the disease prevention and control system, and building capacity in the field of public health. -0-
