The VII Great Mathematical Workshop has concluded at Novosibirsk State University. Over the course of two weeks, 200 schoolchildren, students, young researchers, and teachers from more than 15 cities worked on projects proposed by scientific organizations and industrial partners.

The Great Mathematical Workshop is a format of team project work in which schoolchildren, students, and teachers, together with mentors, solve real research, technological, and methodological problems. The main goal is not only to achieve a visible result during the workshop but also to lay the foundation for the further development of the projects.

This year, participants worked on 24 projects from 31 scientific and industrial partners at the NSU site. The school section brought together 56 participants who addressed nine research tasks. Most of the projects were devoted to data analysis.

At the closing ceremony, the head of the Large Mathematical Workshop Chermen Tsgoev thanked the participants for their work:

I really hope that we have spent these two weeks pleasantly and usefully. The workshop is not only about projects but also about new knowledge, new skills, like-minded people, and experience that will be useful in the future. The results achieved are only the beginning. They can be refined and developed into something truly big. If you have united as a team, don’t get lost after the workshop. See what you started through to the end — you will gain great satisfaction from the result.

According to the workshop leader, during the work, the participants not only conducted research but also made new friends, learned to work as a team, formulate hypotheses, and test them in practice.

This year, the Great Mathematical Workshop expanded its geography: a new venue in Tomsk joined the project.

We do not yet know what the workshop will be like next year. But we really hope that it will be new, different, and most importantly, that it will be together with you again, — noted Chermen Tsgoev.

During the ceremony, there was also an open microphone where participants and curators shared their impressions. The curator of the workshop, a student of the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty at NSU Miron Samoylov he said that over several years he managed to see BMW from different perspectives.

For the first two years I was a participant, and this year I tried myself as a mentor. It is a completely different experience: you not only have to solve the problem yourself, but also organize the team’s work, distribute roles, and help participants come to a common result. I am not disappointed in mentoring. Despite all the difficulties, we managed to achieve good results. For me, BMM is the main event of this summer. It is an event that allows you not only to spend time usefully but also to meet new people, make friends, and together advance mathematical science., — noted Miron Samoylov.

As is customary, the organizers invited participants to return to the Big Mathematical Workshop next year with new projects, ideas, and teams.

The Large Mathematical Workshop is one of the key scientific and educational events of the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok, organized within the framework of the ‘Science and Business’ initiative of the Decade of Science and Technology with the support of the Government of the Novosibirsk Region. LMW is a satellite event of the international forum on technological development ‘Technoprom-2026’.
