Beijing, July 27 /Xinhua/ — On July 21 at 17:00, a freight train loaded with auto parts and everyday consumer goods departed from the Alashankou railway checkpoint /Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Northwest China/ and headed to Europe. Thus, the total number of freight trains passing through this border crossing from China to Europe and China to Central Asia since the beginning of this year has exceeded 5,000, the Alashankou city government reported on its website.
Currently, 129 routes pass through the Alashankou checkpoint as part of China-Europe and China-Central Asia rail freight transportation, covering 21 countries, including Germany and Poland. The range of transported goods includes more than 200 types of products, such as electromechanical equipment, alternative energy sources, car parts, and essential items.
Since July 1 of this year, the number of China-Europe and China-Central Asia freight train routes passing through Alashankou on a fixed schedule throughout the entire route has increased to 8, with the frequency of such trains reaching 27 per week.
Wang Kai, an engineer of the technical service at the Alashankou station of the Urumqi branch of the China Railway Corporation, reported that railway authorities are steadily optimizing the operational process of train reception and dispatch, as well as transshipment operations, and through improved and standardized procedures, they promote the safe, efficient, stable, and intensive movement of China-Europe and China-Central Asia freight trains.
According to him, in the first half of this year, a total of 10.589 million tons of cargo were transported through the Alashankou railway station, which is 15 percent more than in the same period last year.
