Beijing, July 27 /Xinhua/ — On Monday, China urgently allocated an advance of 180 million yuan (about 26.5 million US dollars) from the central disaster relief fund to support six provinces in fighting floods and dealing with the aftermath of typhoons.
Funds jointly allocated by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Emergency Management will be directed towards emergency measures and rescue operations during floods and typhoons in the provinces of Guangdong (South China), Fujian, Jiangxi (both East China), Hunan (Central China), Liaoning, and Jilin (both Northeast China).
According to information from Chinese authorities, the funds will primarily be used for conducting search and rescue operations, evacuating and accommodating affected populations, emergency threat mitigation, identifying and eliminating risks of secondary disasters, and restoring damaged and destroyed homes.
In recent days, several typhoons have struck China. They caused heavy rains in the southern, eastern, and northeastern regions of the country, leading to severe flooding and geological disasters.
