Beijing, July 25 /Xinhua/ — China’s Ministry of Water Resources on Saturday activated a level 4 emergency flood response in seven provincial-level regions due to expected heavy rains brought by Typhoon “Noul”.
These regions include the provinces of Fujian, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, and Guangdong, as well as the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, covering a significant part of eastern, central, and southern China. According to the agency, there is an increased risk of floods on the rivers in these regions, including major waterways of the country such as the Zhujiang, Yangtze, and Huaihe.
In preparation for possible floods, the ministry has called on local water management authorities to closely monitor changes in weather conditions, promptly issue warnings, and purposefully deploy flood control infrastructure.
Typhoon “Noul,” the 12th typhoon this year, is expected to make landfall between Saturday evening and Sunday morning. The Ministry has dispatched five working groups to a number of affected regions to assist on-site with flood control measures.
On the same day, the Ministry of Emergency Management of China implemented a level 4 emergency response due to the threat of geological disasters in Jiangxi and Hunan provinces, while maintaining a similar response in Guangdong and Fujian provinces.
The agency stated that rescue personnel, supplies, and equipment must be pre-positioned in the necessary areas. The Ministry also emphasized the need for timely evacuation of residents from hazardous zones.
China has a four-level emergency response system for flood-related emergencies, with Level 1 being the highest.
