Tashkent, July 25 /Xinhua/ — Chinese airline China Southern Airlines and Uzbekistan’s national carrier Uzbekistan Airways have signed a codeshare agreement that will expand air connectivity between the two countries.

The agreement covers flights from Beijing, Guangzhou, and Urumqi to Tashkent, as well as Uzbekistan Airways flights from Tashkent to Beijing, Guangzhou, Urumqi, and Hangzhou. Passengers of both airlines will have the opportunity to purchase tickets for partner flights through familiar booking systems.

Deputy General Director of the Commercial Management Committee of China Southern Airlines Zhang Dongsheng stated that the company attaches great importance to the Uzbek market. According to him, cooperation with Uzbekistan Airways will strengthen the regional route network and will contribute to the further development of economic cooperation.

The first deputy chairman of the board of Uzbekistan Airways, Umid Khusanov, noted that China remains one of the key markets for the airline. Since the launch of flights on the Tashkent — Guangzhou route in May of this year, there has been high demand and a steady increase in passenger traffic.

“A partnership with China Southern Airlines will strengthen our position in the Asian market and give passengers more freedom in planning their travels,” he emphasized.

The merger of the route networks of the two carriers is expected to boost tourism development as well as strengthen business and cultural ties between China and Uzbekistan. –0–
