Beijing, July 25 /Xinhua/ — Practical cooperation between law enforcement agencies of China and the United States has yielded tangible results since the beginning of this year in combating illegal drug trafficking, countering telecommunications and internet fraud, and in the search for and repatriation of fugitive criminals, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) of the PRC reported.
Thus, bilateral cooperation in the field of drug control has led to the disclosure of several cases related to drug smuggling and illegal trafficking, as well as cross-border supplies of new psychoactive substances.
Also, police officers from China and the USA, together with colleagues from the United Arab Emirates, conducted a joint operation to curb crimes related to telecommunications and internet fraud in Dubai, detaining 276 suspects, dismantling fraudulent dens, and eliminating the chain of related crimes.
Cooperation on extradition issues also proved to be effective. The American side handed over two suspects to China – one of them was wanted on suspicion of smuggling and drug trafficking, and the other – for kidnapping and murder of Chinese citizens abroad. In turn, the Chinese public security organs detained a fugitive from the USA wanted for serious violent crimes and handed him over to the American side.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced its readiness to further deepen practical cooperation with law enforcement agencies of the United States and other countries, to improve mechanisms for exchanging operational information and joint investigation of cases, in order to strictly suppress all types of transnational crime in accordance with the law.
