Taiyuan, July 25 /Xinhua/ — Five people were killed and three others injured as a result of a loess collapse that occurred Friday evening in Hongtun County, administratively subordinate to Linfen City /Shanxi Province, North China/. This was reported on Saturday by the county’s emergency management department.

The collapse occurred in the village of Khaoi at approximately 18:49, burying a residential house. All eight people trapped under the rubble were found thanks to prompt rescue efforts involving local police, firefighters, and medical personnel. However, five of those pulled from the debris showed no signs of life, while the remaining three were taken to the hospital, their condition is reported as stable. -0-
