On the instructions of the Chairman of the Government of Russia, Mikhail Mishustin, Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Chairman of the Government, visited the Kursk region on a working trip. Together with Governor Alexander Khinshtein, he assessed the scientific-educational, sports, and tourist infrastructure of the region. Kursk will celebrate its 1000th anniversary in 2032.
“By the decree of President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and the order of the Government, which organized the organizing committee, we are to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the city. The program is extensive – we visited scientific, educational infrastructure, and sports facilities. Dmitry Chernyshenko and Alexander Khinshtein visited the former Gladkova hospital complex, where the N.A. Semashko hospital used to be located. As part of a presidential pilot project, the historic ensemble will be restored. The complex includes four cultural heritage sites: the main building, the utility house, the shelter, and the pharmacy. The region is also currently exploring the possibility of creating a new hotel on the adjacent territory. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the importance of finding investors. “The architecture is unique. And the fact that the buildings are made in a unified style is wonderful. I positively assess the investment prospects of the project,” he added.
In the Boeva Dacha nature park, the vice-premier and the head of the region assessed the progress of the running center’s construction. It is planned that locker rooms, a gym, a cloakroom, a storage room, and a common hall will be equipped there. The center will be fully adapted for citizens with limited mobility. The project is being implemented under an agreement between the Kursk region, the All-Russian public organization “All-Russian Athletics Federation” (VFLA), and PSB Bank, which have taken on financial commitments. This is part of the VFLA federal project to build a network of running centers for sports enthusiasts. It is expected that the first facilities will appear in more than 20 cities across Russia.
The running center is being constructed as part of the second phase, while the first phase includes the football arena planned as part of the preparations for the 1000th anniversary of Kursk, the Boxing Progress Center, and the Adaptive Sports Center.
“Creating modern infrastructure is an important part of developing mass sports. Our task is to provide conditions so that people of all ages can regularly engage in physical activities close to home. I am confident that the new running center in Kursk will be in demand by the region’s residents and will contribute to achieving the goal set by our President to involve citizens in systematic physical culture and sports,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Deputy Prime Minister was also presented with a site for creating the museum-educational cluster “Inventors’ Quarter” and was informed about the work of the regional branch of the All-Russian Society of Inventors and Innovators. The cluster will be located in two buildings: the house of the Russian inventor Anatoly Ufimtsev and the house where the astronomer Fyodor Semyonov was born in 1794, lived, and worked until 1860. The concept of the cluster has already been developed. It is planned that it will unite a museum, an educational center, spaces for children’s engineering creativity, popular science programs, and tourist routes.

“Thanks to my appeal to the President, a federal organizing committee has been established on his instructions, the reconstruction of the men’s classical gymnasium has been resumed, projects for the restoration of culturally significant sites are being developed, agreements have been signed to create branches of national museums, and new public spaces are being created. All of this already demands enormous efforts from us. Kursk must be transformed because it has a millennium-long history behind it – of feats, decisions, and revival,” emphasized Alexander Khinshtein.
A discussion on the progress of the admissions campaign took place at the South-West State University. The university has a total of over 11,600 students, including about 900 from 45 foreign countries. For the 2026/2027 academic year, the university has been allocated more than 1,200 state-funded places for higher education programs. The largest number of places is in the fields of “Construction Engineering and Technology,” “Computer Science and Computer Engineering,” and “Mechanical Engineering.” There was also a presentation of the university’s advanced developments in nanotechnology and robotics.
The Deputy Prime Minister and the governor visited the Regional Youth Palace and the recently opened Youth Park. Previously, the youth center operated as a humanitarian aid distribution point, and now it implements a range of activities for patriotic education of the youth, engaging them through military-patriotic clubs, Yunarmiya detachments, and cadet classes.
The name “Youth Park” for the public space was given thanks to a vote by the residents of Kursk, held on the initiative of the regional head Alexander Khinshtein.
At the Regional Youth Palace, the Deputy Prime Minister was presented with information about the progress of the summer wellness campaign in the Kursk region. Thus, more than 320 summer recreation organizations operate in the region. Organized forms of recreation have involved over 30,000 children, including children of participants in the special military operation and those in difficult life situations.
There, Dmitry Chernyshenko was also presented with the work of volunteers from the “Movement of the First,” “Childhood Navigators,” “Dobro.RF,” the children’s and youth public organization “School of Youth Leaders ‘Komsorg’,” and a large-scale youth project – the international camp “Slavic Commonwealth.” At the “Dobro.Center” venue, activists told the Deputy Prime Minister how they work with children on improving financial literacy and help the older generation protect themselves from fraudsters. Dmitry Chernyshenko suggested that volunteers from Kursk participate in the International Olympiad on Financial Safety. “Previously, its final was held in ‘Sirius,’ but now it takes place in different cities. This year’s Olympiad final will be held in Krasnoyarsk. Young people from more than 40 countries are selected on the ‘Commonwealth’ platform, which contains a huge amount of various methodological, educational materials on financial safety.
