Wuhan, July 22 /Xinhua/ — One crew member is missing after an explosion on Wednesday on a container ship in Wuhan, the administrative center of Hubei Province /Central China/. This was reported by local authorities.
The incident occurred at approximately 05:30, when the vessel with a hybrid engine was mooring at the port of Yanlo. According to Hubei Port Group Co., Ltd., a loud bang was first heard, after which a fire broke out in the stern of the vessel.
The preliminary investigation showed that seven empty containers fell overboard, and one crew member is missing.
After the explosion, the central port dispatch center ordered an immediate halt to operations and the evacuation of all port workers and the ship’s crew to a safe zone.
