Manila, July 22 /Xinhua/ — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday called on regional countries to resist attempts by external forces to provoke tension, not to allow individual states to sow chaos in the South China Sea /SCS/, and to firmly keep the initiative in ensuring peace and stability in the region in their own hands.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the corresponding statement during a meeting of the foreign ministers of China and the ASEAN countries in the Philippine capital Manila.

Emphasizing that an important window of opportunity has now opened for the final agreement on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, the Chinese diplomat called on all parties to seize this chance, remove obstacles, and make every effort to achieve the set goal. –0–
