Beijing, July 20 /Xinhua/ — In January-June 2026, the main driver of growth in Chinese exports was the equipment manufacturing sector, which increased export deliveries by 18.2 percent compared to the same period last year and accounted for nearly 50 percent of the country’s industrial export growth, official data released on Monday showed.
As chief engineer of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China Wang Weimin told journalists, according to the results of the first half of the year, the export of wind turbines and lithium batteries grew by 35.6% and 37.6%, respectively, while car exports amounted to 5.096 million units, an increase of 65.3% year on year.
Confident growth in competitiveness in the global market is also observed in the Chinese shipbuilding sector, whose export share has exceeded 90 percent across all three indicators: ships already built, new orders, and order backlog.
Wan Weimin, describing the overall state of the equipment manufacturing sector since the beginning of 2026, highlighted the strength of the foundation, the presence of several growth points, and strong external demand.
In the first half of the year, the added value in this industrial sector increased by 6.4%, accounting for 20% of the total production volume of products in Chinese industrial enterprises with an annual main business revenue of at least 20 million yuan /approximately 2.95 million USD/, and 23.5% growth in added value was provided by this category of enterprises. Wang Weimin called this a significant support for the stable functioning of the country’s industry.
In terms of new-quality productive forces, the chief engineer paid special attention to the fact that compared to January-June of last year, the production of industrial and service robots increased by 28 percent and 11.9 percent, respectively. -0-
