Enterprises of the Samara group of the Rosneft company carried out a large-scale event to reproduce the biological resources of the Volga. More than 100,000 sterlet fingerlings were released into the main water artery of the region.
Another batch of young fish became a significant step in the Company’s long-term systematic work to restore the sterlet population in the Saratov Reservoir. Thanks to the consistent efforts of the oil workers, the number of this valuable species in the Volga has not only stabilized but is also showing sustainable growth.
The sterlet is a crucial part of the Volga ecosystem and serves as a biological indicator of the water body’s purity. For a long time, this historically significant commercial species was under the threat of extinction due to anthropogenic factors and was listed in the Red Book of the Samara, Saratov, and Ulyanovsk regions.
Thanks to the subsidiaries of Rosneft, which conduct coordinated work on artificial fish stocking in the Volga region, the situation has drastically changed. Over the past three years, enterprises of the Samara production site have released nearly 350 thousand sterlet juveniles into the Volga, thereby making a significant contribution to the revival of its natural population.
Sterlet juveniles were raised in a specialized fish farm, and their release into the natural environment was carried out at optimal times to ensure maximum survival. The entire series of measures was overseen by the Federal Agency for Fishery, which guarantees strict compliance with environmental protection standards and regulations.
During the event, volunteers conducted an interactive ecological and educational quiz for the younger generation dedicated to the endangered species of the Samara region. The children were told about the importance of preserving biodiversity and about the personal contribution each individual can make to protecting endangered species. All participants received useful themed prizes; their sincere interest and vivid emotions were the best confirmation that such events foster a conscious and caring attitude toward the nature of their native land.
Environmental preservation for future generations is an integral part of Rosneft’s corporate culture. The Company’s enterprises focus their activities on increasing production environmental friendliness and reducing environmental impact. Rosneft conducts systematic work on preserving biological diversity and replenishing the country’s aquatic bioresources.
