Shanghai, July 17 /Xinhua/ — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met on Friday in Shanghai with Maxim Oreshkin, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation.
Wan Yi, who is also a member of the CPC Central Committee Politburo, welcomed M. Oreshkin, who arrived in China to participate in the 2026 World Conference on Artificial Intelligence and to sign an agreement on the establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization /WAICO/ on behalf of the Russian government.
Wan Yi stated that China is ready to cooperate with Russia to promote healthy, safe, and orderly development of AI, with particular attention to building the capacity of Global South countries, and to turn AI into an important element of comprehensive strategic interaction between China and Russia in the new era.
Mutual trust and friendship between the heads of the two states are a fundamental guarantee for the development of China-Russia relations, emphasized the head of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, adding that the parties should adhere to the important consensus reached by the heads of the two states, as well as promote the further development of bilateral ties.
M. Oreshkin, in turn, noted that the creation of WAICO is a major initiative by China that benefits the entire world.
The Russian side highly values this initiative and is very pleased to become one of the founding states of the organization, emphasized M. Oreshkin, expressing hope for expanding cooperation in the field of AI with China. –0–
